Helping out at school is a great way to get involved in your child’s education as well as get to know the staff and other parents and carers.
Research shows that children benefit when their parents or carers are actively involved in their education and school life.
You can help by:
- listening to children read in the classroom
- volunteering on sports days
- helping supervise excursions
- getting involved in fundraising activities
- joining school committees.
School Volunteers
A WWCC clearance number (paid or unpaid) or the completion of the Working With Children Check – Declaration for Volunteers and Contractors (Appendix 5) and 100 points of proof of identity must be obtained by adult volunteers who :
- will work as part of a formal mentoring program
- provide private transport for children (other than their own) to attend school activities
- come to work as a volunteers with direct contact with students in a classroom setting, outdoor school setting or school canteen.
